表達 抨擊、痛批、強烈批評、嚴厲批評 某人事物，一個用法是 attack [əˋtæk]，比如表達 因某個事由 (Y) 而抨擊某人事物 (X)，可用 attack X for Y 或 attack X on the grounds that S + V ....，其中後者是透過 that 引導的名詞子句來表達 某個事由，表達 抨擊 某人事物，也可透過當名詞用的 attack，比如表達 抨擊某人事物 (X/Y)，可用 make an attack on X/Y；此外，表達 (某人事物) 受到抨擊，可透過 be under attack、 be under fire、come under attack、come under fire、get a lot of flak (非正式)、come in for a lot of flak (非正式)、take a lot of flak (非正式)、be slated (英非正式) ( 尤指在報紙中受到抨擊 ) 等等，表達 某人 (X) 受到另一個人 (Z) 的公開抨擊，可用 X is pilloried by Z (正式)；還有，表達 惡意抨擊、詆毀某人事物 (X/Y)，可用 do a hatchet job on X/Y (非正式)，表達 把某人事物 (X/Y) 抨擊得體無完膚，可用 pick/pull/tear X/Y to pieces [pisɪz] (非正式)、pick/pull/tear X/Y to shreds [ʃrɛdz] (非正式)、pick/pull/tear X/Y to bits (非正式) 等；另外，表達 抨擊 某人事物，還可透過 slam [slam]、pan [pæn] (非正式) ( 尤指抨擊電影、戲劇、演出等 )、assail [əˋsel] (正式)、lay into (非正式) 等等： The San Francisco Chronicle ran a scathing editorial attacking the Attorney General for being a hypocrite. (舊金山紀事報發表社論痛批司法部長是個偽君子。) A chief inspector came under attack for gross misconduct, unethical practices and extramarital affairs. (一名督察長因嚴重失職、不道德做法以及婚外情而遭受抨擊。) A former legislator was slammed for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor. (一名前立法委員因涉嫌性侵一名未成年而受到抨擊。)
